Many elders suffer from debilitating conditions that can negatively impact activities of daily living or render the individual housebound. Some of them struggle with disability and chronic illnesses and go without care because they have trouble getting to the Doctor’s clinic. As the average age of the population advances, the number of frail, chronically ill patients will also be on the rise. These patients may have difficulty meeting their doctor due to distance, physical limitations or lack of social support. Such barriers can lead to the inadequate management of chronic illnesses and an increased rate of hospitalization. Moreover, acute conditions may require the use of costly healthcare resources.
Effective healthcare management of the ageing population is required to address specific needs of elderly patients. There is also a huge gap between demand for healthcare needs at homes and their delivery. In order to bridge this gap and to connect the needy elders at home with qualified professionals, Dr. V S Natarajan Geriatric Foundation is striving to revive the Geriatric House Call Program. Though there are house call systems functioning on ground, the area coverage is much less and Tier 2 Townships are yet to access to such systems. The availability of this service has still not reached vast majority of people. The diminishing factor of House Call systems which was practiced on a time before has lead to our initiative of such a crucial program.
What is Geriatric House Call?
Geriatric House Call is a system which provides an immediate response by a qualified physician when an elder is in medical distress.
